Throw Kindness Around Like Confetti

Have you ever hosted or attended a party that involved confetti? If so, then you know that long after the party is over, bits of confetti remain. You find them in the strangest places days or even months later, a reminder of the celebration. The colorful pieces manage to work their way into corners, under furniture, between pages of books, and other hidden places. Guests you’ve invited to the celebration unknowingly take some with them as they go on their way. I believe that if we had the ability to tag and track confetti, we would see a map with lines extending from your home to places all over the country, and maybe even across the world.

So, you’re probably wondering what my sudden obsession with confetti is all about. Let me explain. This morning I was praying about generosity because it is a topic that has been on my heart for several months now. As I prayed today the Lord reminded me that generosity has many facets and like the facets of a diamond, together they gather and reflect light. As Christians we reflect HIS light and love in many ways. We are called to be generous with our financial resources, our time, and the talents we’ve been given. Today I was also reminded that we are to be generous with kindness.

As I began to search scripture to dig deeper into the topic of kindness I was overwhelmed, in a good way. I was reminded of the kindness of God who sent HIS son to save us.  Then I read through scripture after scripture testifying to God’s amazing kindness to HIS people. Finally, I read verse after verse calling us to be kind. Kindness is no small thing in God’s eyes. We are called to be the light and reflect God’s love and goodness to the world and being kind is a wonderful way to do this.
We, as Christians need to “Throw kindness around like confetti.” We need to go about our day with hands full of kindness to sprinkle and even pour out on others. Imagine a world where kindness is generously thrown about. It would eventually be a joyful ticker tape parade! (Can you tell that I am a visual person?) The lines extending from the point of origination would encircle the globe.

Colossians 3:12 tells us “Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” We are to clothe ourselves with kindness. Webster’s defines clothe as “to endow with a particular quality.” Each day we are called to be kind. Wearing kindness is an action. You don’t just put it on and take a seat. You move about your day and your life sharing and giving it.

My friends, let’s all dig deep and fill our hands with kindness and scatter it each day as if it was the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve!
